So Mr Cameron, you want to save money?

Dear Mr Cameron. Government services out of control? Spending through the roof? A manaagement nightmare?

Why not consolidate your public service into one, simple, easy to manage public service…?

My main point is that irritation to many drivers, the DVLA. My question is this. Why are there two databases, one for cars, one for drivers? Why are they seperate? Why do I need to update the address my car “lives” at seperately from the one on my driving license? Surely this whole system would be easier if there was a database of car details, and the car records could be tagged with the record ID of a driver. If the driver updated their license details (age, name, address) then all vehicles owned by that person would automatically be able to be updated with the later details. Not only would that save on me having to fill in multiple documents every time I move house or amend my details, but would also save greatly on administration costs and duplicated data.

The Russians astonishly have had the right idea recently, and implimented a universal id card that actually does something! At least there’s a point to having it, and this single card (which has multiple levels of security and authentication) actually allows the access of public services, functions as a travel card, student ID etc……

If we had actually gotten ID cards here, I bet they’d have been exactly that… just an ID card. I already have a national insurance card, another total waste of wallet space. I also have a government issued ID card already that works as ID almost everywhere in Britain.

So, dear Minister types. If you want to save money, have a good look and see how many of these things you can consolidate, and make my life easier while you are at it…..
